Rekindled Prophecy by Freeman K.C.

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

A paranormal romance full of adventure, mystery, and love.

Greylyn is a guardian angel spending her days saving human lives and souls. Yet, even Guardian angels need a break and after 450 years of daily duty, all Greylyn wants is a little rest. But evil never takes a break and Greylyn’s vacation is over before it starts.

Kael, Hell’s most lethal weapon and steady thorn in Greylyn's side, awaits her at the cozy bed and breakfast nestled in the Shenandoah Mountains where she was planning on winding down for a few days. The two have battled each other for centuries, but somehow, neither had dealt the death blow. What's more, Greylyn can't help the attraction she feels towards the dark creature; an addictive spellbinding attraction that seems to affect both her body and soul; an attraction she neither wants, nor understands.

When a young bride in peril lures them both into the clutches of a notorious fallen archangel and innocent lives hang in the balance, a reluctant and unlikely alliance binds the two eternal enemies together in a quest to unravel a prophecy so deadly that Heaven refused to write it down.

Overall, Rekindled Prophecy is a very entertaining beautifully written book. It has a great mystery, a solid plot, a good number of great fight scenes, just enough gore and action, as well as a nice touch of sass and spunk.
The push and pull between Greylyn and Kael was very nicely done and I loved their interactions.
However, I couldn't really connect with, or root for either of them.

Kael, somewhat grew on me by the end of the book when I could really get a real good insight into his tortured soul and feelings. There were clues dropped on the way but the big reveal came a tad late for me to fully connect.
And I'll definitely read the next book in series because of him. To see what happens next. :D

Greylyn on the other hand, remained a bit of a conundrum even at the very end. She's supposed to be a badass powerful angel guardian and yet she ends up in need of being rescued most of the time. Either someone or another swoops in to save her, or her charge, because she either gets beaten to a pulp or gets distracted and fails in her mission. That fact alone took her down a notch or two in my book because not only does it contradict the idea of 'last-of-your-kind trained to fight badass guardian angel' but also made her look a touch whiny - the small little damsel-in-distress kind.

For me the best characters are those that are balanced. I love them in nice shades of grey from emotional make-up to strength and everything else. It is only then, that they call to me and I can connect. And the balance is not quite right as far as Greylyn's concerned.

From strength and powers to fragility, there were quite a few contradictions that I couldn't get passed. As far as both Greylyn and others are concerned.
In the fight scenes for example. At one time we have her taking punch after punch and blow after blow with pain exploding as bones and tendons cracked and her world turned crimson; then opening her eyes and clearly seeing the expression in her attacker's eyes; slowly pushing herself up on shaking arms and the next moment jumping up and running over to her mentor Jasper.
Angelic healing is what I suspected, and I'm cool with that! Except that, in another fight scene, we have her headbutting a demon possessed human with all her might then literally crawling to her attacker since she's blinded by pain and blood.

For someone who digs great fight scenes and reads paying attention to details, these little things were a bit off-putting and cut down from the charm of the tale.

All in all, Rekindled Prophecy is a good and entertaining PNR with a great premise, a solid mystery and a love story that promises to be epic in the volumes to come. It does leave a lot of questions unanswered but also offers a hint that answers and explanations will come.

I for one will be reading the rest of the series and definitely recommend it to anyone in search of an entertaining PNR.
