Unlikely Hero by Sian B. Claven

My rating: 5 out of this world stars

A great interplanetary space adventure that reads like a little movie.

Jasy is a Spacehiker, an illegal traveller traipsing across the civilised universe, and she wants nothing more than to make her way here and there on her own. Befriended by a spaceport bar owner, she is enticed with a payout she can’t ignore to escort two strangers to Dark Space. Two humans to be exact. Not exactly an easy thing to do when humans are a race resented by all other species. But Jasy never backed out on a challenge and the promised payment is too enticing to decline.

With Markus and Zara in tow, Jasy must spacehike through galaxies and across planets, all the while evading the nefarious guards and pirates that are out for their blood. Human and alien alike.

This is the start to their adventure. One that is bound to have you flying through the pages till the very end.

The narrative is light and flowing, and despite the fact this is a mere 100 pages read, the wordbuilding is fantastic and the characters nicely fleshed out. And to top it off, the action is not only fast-paced and cinematic, but also credible and realistic.

The only thing I'll grumble about is the open end. Not a cliffhanger per se, but with no proper resolution either. Just a serial type To Be Continued. And not steep enough to be frustrating either.

All in all, if you're in a mood for a good Sci-Fi read with a great female lead and a whole lot of action - the 'from the frying pan straight into fire' kind, give this book here a try.
It's a page-turner alright! I read it in one sitting and hope the sequel will be published soon.
