Big H and Little h Dog by Smith, Victoria

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Meet 'Big H' and 'Little h Dog' in this heartwarming children's story, based on the real life endeavours of a father to save his son from the cruel muscle wasting disease 'Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy'.

Author Victoria Smith and Illustrator Sketchy La Rue have created here a wonderful little book with a touching message. A lovely little story explaining disability in a very simple, sensitive and delightful manner - in such a way that even little children understand.

Little h Dog is different. He has poor muscles and can't do any of the things other dogs do. But Little h Dog's owner doesn't give up on finding a way to help his little buddy. He keeps at it and doesn't loose hope, just as any good parent will do. And in the end, it all pays off.

The sweet and colourful illustrations, combined with the simple and easy way in which the story is told, turns this book into a little page turner for any little child out there. And even grown-ups too. But what's the best part of it, it enables little ones to clearly understand not only what disability is but also that being different is not bad. And that is something that's pretty difficult to achieve, especially in such a delicate manner as this.

And then there is the hope. That elusive feeling so many families with children with special needs fight to maintain! This little book here is a beacon. A little light in the dark night. An urge to 'keep going' because there might be a way to get better - even if you don't see it now.

It's a charming little tale that not only teaches a valuable lesson, but also goes completely towards
charity.

100% of profit from book sales will be donated to Harrison’s Fund, a charity on a mission to get as much money as possible into the hands of the world's best researchers, who are working hard to find a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

It's a fabulous book for a great cause!
So please don't hesitate to give it a try.
