The Reluctant Wizard by A.A. Warne

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Are you looking for a read to cure your Harry Potter hangover?
Or maybe for a book with a hero even more awesome than Septimus Heap?
This here is the perfect fit!

THE RELUCTANT WIZARD is a middle-grade YA book that even I, as an adult, don't really want to set down.

A 12 year old boy determined to save his mother and little baby brother from starvation, decides to do the one thing he was always advised to NOT DO!
He joins the Grand Wizardry Academy. At the risk of never being able to return home.

Studying magic in the mysterious land of the wizards is no mean feat. The tests are weird and so are the rules. And the more Eli asks around, the more questions arise.

A dark secret lies at the heart of this mystical land, one so terrible it threatens not only the students at the Academy but the lives of everyone Eli loves.
To save them all, Eli must step into the midst of the battle between the wizards and warlocks and defy both sides. He must become the rebel he was always meant to be.

A bit dark, a little whimsical, outstandingly imaginative and downright addictive, The Reluctant Wizard is one of those practically unputdownable reads.

I absolutely loved it and highly recommend it to all fantasy lovers out there - younger and older alike.
