Beneath Black Sails by Sager, Clare

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A swashbuckling pirate romance complete with thumping adventure, devilish charm, a cocky Pirate Queen and a rakish pirate hunter; simmering heat and bitter heartache included.

'Well-behaved women seldom make history.' - Laurel Thatcher Ulrich

And this is exactly what Lady Vice seems to be doing. With weather magic on her side, she is the bane of the high seas. Songs are written about the famous Pirate Queen and the reward on her head would tempt even the rich. But she isn’t captain of her own ship. Yet. And persuading her captain to give her a command, seems to be increasingly difficult to do. After all, a member of crew wasn't meant to outshine her captain in the tales of victory and adventure. And that is bound to sting. But Lady Vice is set on getting that captain-ship and going her own way. And if that involves a job that not even a lunatic pirate would consider, so be it. Lady Vice will see it done!

To pay off his family’s debts, Knigh Blackwood hunts pirates for the Royal Navy. And he’s damn good at it. When the bounty on Lady Vice increases, he’s determined to make her face justice, even if that means using unorthodox methods. But Lady Vice not only makes him look the fool at their first encounter, but she does it in style and even has the nerve to wink and blow him a kiss.
He'd only wanted to catch her for the handsome bounty but the cocky show-off stung real bad. And turned it all personal.

Sometimes it takes a pirate to catch a pirate.

Knigh Blackwood is now determined to catch the infuriating vixen. But she's cunning enough to evade capture or escape and her charm will allow her to even talk her way out of chains. So he crafts a trap she won't even see coming. He's determined to do whatever it takes to do the job done but even the best laid plans go wrong. And to say his plan backfired would be a huge understatement. Because the infamous Lady Vice is just like something puzzling he'd found wrapped around an anchor. And trying to figure her out seems to be downright impossible.

Forced to work together, neither can deny their mutual attraction. As they face battles at sea and schemes aboard their ship, Vice and Knigh keep growing closer. But secrets best forgotten threaten to blast them apart and danger lies in wait to both Vice's freedom and Knigh's family. For one to succeed, the other must fail. And the victory will be so painful, that it will make one's heart clench in agony.

Fast paced and full of both fun and feeling, Beneath Black Sails s is a downright irresistible read that will have you turning pages long into the night.

The Lady is a mix of cocky and gentle that will make you adore her from the very first page and her hunter one of those fine specimens that manage to be oh so tempting through both their gruffness and brokenness.

Vivid and intense, thrilling and addictive, this is one of those books in the pages of which you can easily get lost. Charismatic characters starring in a vibrant story set on a superb background will practically make you see the tale unfold before your eyes. Sass and witty banter will compete with heartache and sorrow to give you one of those memorable romances perfect for the big screen.

If you're a fan of all things pirate and long for a sizzling hot pirate love, Beneath Black Sails would be the perfect fit.
It's swashbuckling!
