Luna & the Magical Piano by Verheyen, Kaia

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A beautiful little book written by a very talented 8 year old girl.

Yep. You heard that right. Kaia Verheyen, the author, is only 8 year old. And the tale she delivers is enchanting!

Join 10 year old Luna and her big sister Isabella on their quest to restore the seasons and save the world from a terrible danger. They'll need to embark on a fantastic adventure around the world to recover 7 magical piano keys and defeat the Lord of Shadows and his army.

When Luna and her family moved from Singapore to England, they shipped all their possessions by cargo. All carefully packed to reach safely, including Luna's beloved piano. A magical piano with good keys that Luna played on every day. But the piano arrives damaged and 7 of it's keys are missing. Not a very big problem since they can be replaced. But the new keys are evil and the melody Luna plays on her newly fixed piano brings disastrous results.

A reoccurring nightmare, confirmed by Isabella and a mysterious note sprinkled in pixie dust that contains 7 riddles prompts Luna and her sister to embark on a journey around the world in search of answers and lost piano keys, while trying to outpace a boy shaped shadow and escape the Lord of Shadows. A journey full of mystery and magic, that requires a good deal of courage, trust and heart.

Even though Luna & the Magical Piano is intended for children in between 7 and 15 years old, I confess I, as an adult, loved it just as much as my kids. It is beautifully written and wonderfully complemented by lovely illustrations.
"A kind of Geronimo Stilton but with two girls and in our world not Mouse Island. A pretty cool story."
This was my 11 year old son's description after we finished the book.

Mystery and intrigue, fairies and riddles, as well as a good old good versus evil theme, this book has it all and much more.
And I loved the addition of historical facts and geographical places that were nicely interwoven into the tale. Beautifully done.

Both me and my children enjoyed it and highly recommend it to all fantasy adventure fans out there. Young or old, we're sure they'll all enjoy Luna's magical adventures.

Happy reading everyone
