Book Review: The Turning Point
Posted on 19/06/2020 07:37:12The Turning Point by Ash, Julia
My rating: 5 daring stars
for the conclusion of one of the most daring series I have ever read!
'The One and Only?
I've learned there's no such thing. Everyone can rise as a hero if they choose to become the best they can be. Everyone plays a role, everyone has gifts, even if they aren't of the immortal variety.'
The Eli Chronicles starts as an apocalyptic thriller featuring bioterorism and zombies, and heads straight off into fantasy with book 2, adding alien vampires, prophecies and a whole lot of fantasy elements into the mix. Only to end it all on an even higher note, with this third installment, that gives us talking animals, shifters and much more.
I would have never imagined the series to head down this route. And if you had told me about it, my reaction would have been a clear cut: No Way!! This won't work at all!!
Except that it did!
Julia Ash pulled it like a charm. Using a blend of genres, from apocalyptic thriller to sci-fi, myth and fantasy, she seamlessly weaves them together creating a unique and fabulous tale in which everything connects and falls into rhythm perfectly.
Daring, unorthodox, extremely imaginative and downright ballsy, this series is in itself a kind of 'One and Only' in the fantasy genre. An I loved every single page of it!
The Turning Point picks up straight off from the end of book 2, when Ruby answers the desperate call of the POTUS. The experimental cure he had attempted for his wife's cancer sort of backfired. That's precisely what you get when meddling with dark science, but when a man is desperate, logic and reason are all but eradicated by insane determination. And when same man is faced with a colossal failure, grief gives birth to anger and revenge in the blink of an eye. And Ruby is the target.
Because she is The One and Only who failed to rescue the first lady, she is now made to pay.
Ruby has been an invincible vampire for so long that she had forgotten what it felt like to be a victim. And this is exactly what she becomes now, held tight in the clutches of Emory Bradshaw. I already grew to hate this man in book 2 but now he made all my hackles rise! I swear every time he called someone 'girlfriend' I felt like punching him straight in the face.
With this mad scientist here, Julia Ash created one heck of character to absolutely hate! Kudos for that!
But back to the plot because I digress. :D Ruby goes missing and her family is desperately trying to find her. All the while being faced with an unexpected, but already prophesied problem.
The natural order on Earth and Athanasia is about to shift. Animals are tired of being underdogs to humans and vampires. And wolves are more than happy to lead a rebellion.
The Tether is the Only One who who can connect the animals with their rightful king. But to do that, Ruby must first escape and even trust.
Trust is fickle. Difficult to gain and easy to loose.
And sometimes, the only thing that can help. And Ruby will need all the help she can get if she wants to come out of her predicament alive.
The Turning Point is even more fast paced than it's predecessors. Just as full of edge of the seat action and twists and turns that you don't see coming. Just as unique and fabulously intriguing.
Ruby continues to grow as a character, Gabby comes into her own and Clay... Well, let's just say I didn't see that coming but loved every moment of it. The family as a whole shines and so does the love. Love shines in this book, along with trust and forgiveness.
'When we choose love over greed we'll experience our own turning point. One which will transform our lives forever.'
Now....
'Imagine a universe where everyone makes this choice.'
If you are in a mood for a unique read that's anything but your ordinary run-of-the-mill fantasy, pick up The Eli Chronicles and you won't regret it.
Happy reading Bookdragons
and always remember:
Love is the cure?
'Yes, love and generosity. But we must choose to be healed.
