Book review: Cake

My rating: 5 sweet stars
"Why me?" he asked... "You're so amazing. So alive. Why the visiting professor with a head full of numbers?"
Her nose wrinkled. "Because you're cute. Your smiles make me wet." He nearly choked. "And you're smart, focused, and you like my ice cream."
Meet Zophia “Zoey” Walinski - purple hair, tattoos and piercings. She may be the black sheep of her family but she sure knows how to whip a mean mouth-watering bowl of Triple-Chocolate ice cream. Running her own Imperial Beach ice cream shop, she’s not focused on anything besides scooping her way to success.
Until the day Joseph George Ainsworth III stumbles through her door. Looking like a pirate or a poet from a bygone century, every bit the academic that he is, he's pretty hot to look at, but let's get real! What would Mr. The Third have in common with a wild card like Zoey?!
As it turns out, a lot more than they think.
Neither a poet nor a pirate, reserved English oceanographer Joseph is in SoCal only for the summer. And Zoey is is a lot more fun than his project research. The fact that Joseph had never had a girlfriend or been in bed with anyone at all, is not something he's proud to admit. And yet, it doesn't seem to bother Zoey. Once she realises Joseph was a fellow black sheep, 'if in a very British way', and also extremely agreeable to her her proposal of a summer fling with no-strings fun, she wastes no time in hooking him in.
She had no problem whatsoever helping a handsome man discover his sensuality. After all, she liked working with raw ingredients and turning them into something delicious. And that's exactly what she sets out to do and their little story begins.
One full of fun and sexy smut, adorable moments and chuckle-worthy scenes. A feel good love story where you'll find your lips quirking ever so often in a smile because of a deliciously adorable dorky professor who may have bitten a little more than he can chew.
Two black sheep with a mutual agreement that turns into something neither has foreseen. Falling in love was a stupid thing to do and neither had planned on it. Especially since their relationship had always had an expiration date. And yet, Joseph is suddenly faced with the incontestable truth, that 'he was arse over teakettle in love with Zoey.' But right after realising he had really messed up.
If and how the two will get their HEA, I'll leave that for you to find out, but if you decide to give their tale a try, be ready for a fun filled ride. Chuckles, cuteness and steamy hot scenes beautifully mix together in a feel good romance for the heart.
Cake is a high heat novella full of sunshine, whale song, and love!
With an added extra of:
- an overprotective brother who looked more like a prizefighter than a doctor and gave our nerdy professor the feeling if he answered the wrong way he'd be drinking through a straw for a month.
- a BFF who's also a writer who knows how to plan a murder to get even for a broken heart (at least in theory that is :D )
- lots of humour, sass and sexy smut.
Vibrant, charming, fluffy and heart-warming.... It's spicy cuteness on a page.
