Book review: A Highland Ghost for Christmas
Posted on 21/08/2024 11:52:43A Highland Ghost for Christmas by Jo-Ann Carson
My rating: 4 hot stars in a kilt!
for... as the author herself put it: a sweet, romantic comedy guaranteed to warm the cockles of your heart, make you laugh out loud and leave you craving a man in a kilt … and shortbread, of course.
Because I loved the sexy hunk in a kilt and all his shenanigans!
Librarian Maddy Jacobson is nursing a broken heart. Her handsome prince turned out to be a horny toad and now she's devastated. In an attempt to cheer her up, her best friend gives Maddy an early Christmas present, intended to be fun - a psychic reading in a spooky, tea house.
Maddy does question her sanity as she agrees to her best friend's plan. As a well-educated reference librarian, she believes in facts, not destiny, psychics or any form of hocus-pocus. How anyone could believe a pile of tea leaves on the bottom of a porcelain cup could predict the future amazed her. They needed their heads checked.
And she doesn't care that Madam Azelea, the psychic lady, asks her to make a wish! She doesn't even bother making one, because this whole thing was nothing more than a soggy tea leaf sham and besides, her wishes never came true.
She doesn't bother to believe any of the stuff, even when Madam Azelea starts mentioning true snippets of her life and the table starts jumping up and down. She has to reconsider all of it however, when her cutlery suddenly ends up on the kitchen floor and coffee tins start flying.
Maddy becomes haunted by a mischievous, Highland ghost.
Ruggedly handsome, Cullen Macfie, the Highlander, has been dead for over three centuries, and never in all those years has he been so attracted to a woman, as he is to Maddy. He falls hopelessly in love and decides to woo her.
I'm not going to tell you what all the handsome hunk is up to... you're gonna have to read this to find out. But know that, if you won't end up laughing out loud once in a while, you'll surely chuckle more often than not.
A sweet, funny and endearing read, fluffy and heart-warming, A Highland Ghost for Christmas is perfect to curl up with when in need of touching tale on a cold winter evening. Or any time you'd like to relax and smile, to be exact.
It is pretty short so don't expect a lot of backstory. And don't take it very seriously either. It's magic and wishes come true after all!
Just go with it and enjoy the tale, preferably curled up beside a warm fire with a naughty beverage and this book. :D
And I hope you'll enjoy it just as much as I did!
