5 it's ok to not be ok stars
When your world changes direction all you can do is hold on.
Hold on?
Shit, more like grab any ropes, chains and strings you can find to tie yourself to, because this life is throwing me some major loops on one long-ass roller-coaster ride.
The change may not be for the good, or what we would expect, but all we can do is hope for the best.
You could also scream, as if it's going to make it any better.
Maybe you could hide under your bed and pity yourself until you make yourself sick.
Or, you can just take a deep breath and hold on.
I've done them all.
Claire was a nineteen-year-old girl in college with a dream of being an Olympian that wasn't too far within reach as a college top track star. She had it all planned out: college, track, friends, her own dorm and a great life!! She had it all and, just like many others, took it all for granted. Until the day everything changed! An unforeseen accident turned Claire's life upside down and threatened to take away everything she held dear: the college, her running and even her independence. Because... how can you follow any of these dreams if you're going blind!? Claire is now slowly but surely loosing her sight; and there's nothing the doctors seem to be able to do about it.
Her story is not one of a perfect happy ever after! It is a story of survival and strength and a lesson in learning to live with the cards fate has dealt you in the best way you can. Even if the hand you got is crappy and even if you break down on the way, Claire will show you here that sometimes it's ok to not be ok and that happy ever afters don't have to be picture perfect to be truly happy!
In her struggle to accept the bleak future foretold by her doctors, Claire is shutting everyone out, trying to handle it all on her own. Friends and family are both kept at arm's length because Claire doesn't want to draw them into her pain. And boyfriends?! Claire has no place in her life for that right now!
Too bad the sexy soccer player who kicked a ball into her face at their first meeting doesn't want to take no for an answer! And too bad Claire's big goofy brothers don't respect any boundaries she tries to set! Because family is family after all, and people who love you never back down!
A sweet and beautiful love story blooms between Jake and Claire, under the watchful eye of Claire's two big guardians; Liam and Cole, her twin brothers. And I need to tell you here that those guys are fabulous!! I just loved loved loved them!!
Running full force with panic on their faces towards their baby sister whenever she had a fall, dramatically checking her for injuries and then going crazy about what they should do when she's obviously fine. I'm telling you people, those guys are A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!
Slowly and patiently, Jake breaks through all the carefully raised walls Claire had put up around her and teaches her to acknowledge her fears and to accept help. In turn, Claire teaches Jake to really see, beyond the plain sight our eyes reveal. She teaches him to stop taking life for granted and to truly live. While Liam and Cole cheer on the sidelines, giving a gentle push once in a while whenever needed.
Raise your hand if you are stubborn. Now raise your hand if you have a hard time apologizing. Now raise your hand if it's hard to admit you can at times overreact.
Did you raise your hand?
I didn't think so. you hardheaded rebel! You see, we are not that different..
What Do You See? is for all of us stubborn hardheaded rebels who always want to do everything on our own and think we know better. It teaches us not only to hold on, but also to reach out and ask for a little help when we cannot make it on our own.
A beautifully written book with fleshed out characters and a story to grab you by the heartstrings from the very first page! Raw and emotional, What Do You See? is one of the best romances I've read this year! I highly recommend it to all those searching for a good slow burn romance with meaning and a lot of feeling!
May it lift your spirits the way it did mine!
Happy reading! :)
