Old and New: The Enchanted Wedding Dress Book 1 by Race, Lucinda

My rating: 5 enchanting stars

The first book in Lucinda Race's 'The MacLellan Sisters Trilogy' introduces us to Jamie, Kenzie, and Grace MacLellan - three sisters who happen to be happily single, smart, ambitious and beautiful. And have no intention whatsoever to change their independent ways and get saddled with a husband. After all, it is a lot 'easier to face life alone than be devastated by a shattered heart.'

But when their their beloved Gran passes away, the sisters receive an intriguing parcel and may perhaps be forced to reconsider. Because it is not every day that you receive an enchanted dress which is said to have the power to bring true love to the single woman who wears it. Especially when it's accompanied by a letter written by a Grand-grandma who seems to have had clairvoyant powers, since everything she wrote rings true.

So Jamie, the eldest, decides to try it on. Not because she believes in that superstition that the dress will bring her true love, and definitely not because it will find a husband for her, but so at least one member of her generation can say she wore it.
Of course the shadow flickering in the mirror, that looks somehow like a very tall man, is only a figment of her imagination. It can't be a nudge from beyond the grave. And yet, Jamie finds herself suddenly making silly wishes upon a star and longing for a wedding day.

And when she gets to meet the tall and handsome Steven Sullivan, the attorney who she's supposed hire and finds herself shopping for new dresses just to 'go out with a friend', even the shopkeepers end up telling her: 'I've heard that one before. Have fun with your friend.' And yet, Jamie knows Steven can't be it. Because no sparks are flying in between them. Something that can't be said about her and Steven's brother Caleb. But the man drives her crazy and even if the mere sight of him makes Jamie's knees go week, the question still remains: how can 'a dress find a husband Jamie doesn't even think she wants?!

If it finds him or not, I'll leave that for you to find out. But I guarantee you're gonna love the story.
Endearing, enchanting and full of fun, this tale is absolutely heartwarming. I loved the dynamic between the sisters, as well as that with Steven and Caleb.
The interactions between them are bound to put a smile on your lips every once in a while, as well as make you wish to have been a part of their closely knit circle.

Old and New is a story of love and family relationship, one of close friendship and enviable sisterhood. Peppered with great humor, full of witty dialogues and beautifully depicting an enchanting Scottish heritage, this endearing tale will draw you in from the very first pages and keep you hooked till the very end.
