A Cure For Nel, and Other Stories by Kyra Halland

My rating: 5 charming stars

Three little short stories by an author I have fallen in love with after reading Sarya's Song.

Three short fantasy stories about love, family, greed, ambition, and the desires of the human heart.

The Peach Tree: Lonely seamstress Sula will do anything to gain her greatest desire. A desire so heartbreaking that you cannot help but wish for her to succeed.
'I've always wanted to create a new life. Something I could watch grow, something I could love and that would love me back.'

This story broke my heart.

You Can't Take It With You: Uncle Morgi, the richest magician in the city, has died, and his most valuable possession is missing.
Where is it and who will get it is the main question here, especially since the family members he has left behind are fighting like hyenas over it.
This one was fun and entertaining and I did not see it coming.

A Cure for Nel: When Leya's daughter falls ill, their only hope is the man who abandoned them years ago to pursue his dreams of magic.
Now this story here gives a small measure of why I fell in love with this author's writing. So very short and yet it managed to get me so riled up that I could have punched a certain vile man in the face. And it made me tear up too. Because of Leya's despair that she won't reach in time. Because of patient love you sometimes don't see, despite it being laid at your feet, until it smacks you straight into the face. And because of the depth of feeling within the human heart. Or lack of it at times, when it is mostly needed.

These little stories make you think. About all that's wrong with people and the world. Skillfully written and unique they read like a charm. Kyra Halland is one of the few authors able to craft mesmerizing worlds withing just a few pages.

I highly recommend this little anthology to all great fantasy lovers out there who want both wonderfully crafted characters and memorable worlds.
