Truthwitch by Susan Dennard

My rating: 2.5 stars and an upopular opinion

I get why younger people love this book. I really do.

It is a very light read with a great concept and a lot of action, it's funny and has witty dialogues as well as a few eye-rolling scenes which you normally expect nowadays from this kind of books.

For me however, it was pretty much a mixed bag.

Because to me it lacked depth! The story is really very shallow, there are so many things left unexplained.... and the end is literally in shambles, with no threads tied up whatsoever.

I couldn't bring myself to like the main heroine Safi, but I loved Iseult and Merrik. For those 2 alone I decided to go on reading the next book in the series with the hope I wouldn't find it as frustrating.

If you don't mind shallow stories with a lot of fast-paced action that doesn't really lead you anywhere you should go for this one.
If on the other hand you like to have some real plot and substance and some amount of closure in the end you may end up sharing my reaction: "What?! That's all?! That's it?!"  And in that case I would advise you to grab another series instead.
