The Sentinels - Saving Her by Reyne, Cassidy

My rating: 5 scorching stars!

Heartbreak, suffering, pain and sorrow, hope, trust and scorching love.
This book is an emotional roller-coaster.

By far not your typical sweet romance book, The Sentinels: Saving Her is a dark romance full of mystery and suspense, with a light paranormal touch.

Nikolas Hunter is a Sentinel, a human with exceptional abilities, who is part of a large covert group that operates under secrecy for the good of society: The Sentinels.
Anya is on the run from a painful past, trying to give herself a break and decide how to start afresh.
Their paths cross in an airport and sparks fly!

Now wait a minute, you're gonna say. I know you hate insta love stuff!! How come you rated this a 5?!
Because, my friends, this isn't insta love per-se. It is a bond that ties two soulmates together. One alike that of the werewolves in Twilight, yet different. Anya and Nikolas are Jumeaux - soulmates, two halves that need to come together to form a perfect whole. There is tether between them too, but I'm not going to spoil and tell how it all works. You're gonna have to read this to find out. Yet trust me when I say the instant sparks make perfect sense this way. :)

The two get together but danger lurks in the shadows. A danger far greater than the one Anya has already faced. And this new threat could not only break Anya, but completely destroy her. The Sentinels have ruthless enemies, who won't hesitate to employ the most horrid means to get what they're after. And Anya falls in their clutches.
If Nikolas cannot find her and keep her safe, he will loose her and destroy himself in the process.

Their love story is a wonderful mix of romance, mystery and suspense that will keep you turning the pages till the very end. But what makes it truly exceptional is the feeling!
Reyne's characters will drag you along in their doubts and uncertainties, they will make you feel their pain and sorrow, just as they will make you sigh at their love.
Darkness and hope, suffering and happiness, and above all, a scorching love, this author gives it all. And you cannot help but be swept into the torrent.

There is one more thing you should bare in mind. Reyne's writing style is different. It is unlike any other I have encountered till now and it may not work for everyone. I personally found it captivating and refreshing but that will be for each and everyone of you to see.

Reyne doesn't give you pages filled with dialogue. She summaries the conversations cutting down the chit chat and then heads straight off for the feeling. She'll let you know how her characters feel and what they think. She'll tell you all about the overwhelming emotions and, because of the compelling way she describes them, she will make you feel in turn. I couldn't help rooting for both Anya and Nikolas in turn, because of those emotions. And I fell in love with them both.

I will say it again. This book is not for the faint of heart. It turns pretty dark at times and touches on both emotional suffering as well as physical abuse. No rape here, but we do get torture scenes that will literally make you want to punch the brutes that administer it. And we get a lot of anguish, akin to the one in New Moon. If you are a fan of the Twilight series, you're probably going to love The Sentinels too.

The mystery and suspense here rivals that of Shiloh Walker, keeping you at the edge of the seat biting your nails till the very end. If you love those books, Reyne's will be perfect for you.

And don't you go thinking that this is your typical romantic drama where the hero dashes in to save the poor damsel in distress. I wouldn't bet my savings on that if I were you.
Anya and Nikolas complement each other beautifully over here. They take turns at being weak and in need of saving. There is no strong possessive male who keeps his fragile beauty safe. Well, there is a strong possessive male, but Anya is nothing like the fragile beauty in your typical romance.
This woman goes through hell and still manages to have a backbone. She is badass even while terrified and she would go to the end of the world for her man. Just as he would do it for her. They are each other's strength and reason for living.

A well researched and masterfully build plot with a gripping mystery and compelling characters, The Sentinels: Saving Her is one of the best debut novels I have read this year. I finished it in one day and jumped straight into the sequel because yes! It was that good!

If you're looking for a compelling read that's bound to get you emotionally invested, this would be the perfect choice.
I highly recommend it to all fans of Stephanie Meyer and Shiloh Walker, as well as all those who love a gripping dark romance.
hope you will like it just as much as I did.
Happy reading! :)
