The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare

My rating: 5 lovely I'll keep you always stars!

The creatures most difficult to reach make the most loving companions in the end.

This one goes straight off onto my all-time favourites pile.

From the very first page this book pulled me straight in, swept me off my feet and made me fall in love. With the characters, with the writing, with the story itself.

This may be a historical romance kind of Beauty and the Beast retelling, but one quite original and absolutely charming.

Yes, we do have the usual marriage of convenience and yes we do have a grumpy scarred lord and a lovely innocent bride to be. But this is where all the usual stops.

Our bride to be is sassy and brave, the kind of girl who knows that
Charming princes weren't always what they seemed. Shining armor went out of fashion with the Crusades. And if fairy godmothers existed, hers was running several years late.
Most of the time, a girl needed to rescue herself.

The grumpy lord is a hot-tempered sweetheart whose behaviour and comments will make you laugh your head off most of the time and sigh lovingly at others.

From monstruos dresses compared to "unicorn vomit" to "pestilent, mewling jackanapes" called Breeches, from loyal house staff planning little accidents to a butler who doesn't shy away from punching his master in the gut, this little story has all the perfect ingredients to keep a smile on your lips from the beginning to the very end.

And don't get me wrong, as funny as it is, it also gives us feelings and emotions.

You're here", he repeated taking her hand and drawing it against his chest, right above his pounding heartbeat. "In my heart. Somehow you crashed your way into it when I wasn't looking. The same way you barged into my library I suppose. But you're here now, inside. Emma, you're the very life of me."

Ugly scars inside and out, acceptance and healing, tendernes, love and laughter... This little book has it all!

All of you who love fairytale retellings, cozy romances and reads that make you laugh and feel all mushy inside...
