Radiance by Draven, Grace
My rating: 5 beautifully hideous stars
“You find me ugly, don't you?"
"Hideous. A hag of a woman. And you? You don't think me a handsome man?""Had you crawled out from under my bed when I was a child, I would have bludgeoned you to death with my father's mace.”
One of my favorite love stories of all time, starring one of my all-time favorite couples!
The tale of Brishen Khaskerm, prince of Kai, and Ildiko, niece of the Gauri king.
Pawns for their Kingdoms they are married to each other to secure an alliance. They are unimportant... Brishen and Ildiko. And they weren't supposed to mean anything to anyone. Let alone get along, become friends and fall in love.
They begin their life together with a refreshing honesty,
“You make a very handsome dead eel, my husband,”
“For a boiled mollusk, you wear black quite well, my wife,”
And slowly, their admiration and respect for each other grows stronger with each passing day.
“Theirs was an agreement based on the beginnings of friendship, respect and an intuitive understanding of each other”
Both find the appearance of the other ghastly but can't help but admire the bright soul beneath it.
“Will you be that for me, Ildiko,” he said. “That beacon in the void?”
“The void is vast, like the sea at night and no land in sight. I’ll be the beacon, Brishen.”
As the agreement is backed by respect and admiration, friendship and care, it slowly turns into one of the most beautiful love stories ever written.
"Woman of day," he said slowly. "You mean everything to me.”

“She was ugly; she was beautiful, and she was his.”
Brishen and Ildiko are a formidable couple and theirs is an unforgettable tale.
Enchanting and gripping; full of sassy retorts and witty remarks; complete with a lot of feeling, RADIANCE is a fabulous tale that's bound to sweep any and all romantic fantasy fans out there off their feet.
It's one of those tales that will touch your soul, put a smile on your lips and warmth in your heart.
Light, fun, charming...
and unforgettable!🖤
