Curse of the Healer by Ford, Angela J.
Talia is a renowned healer, until one fateful night, Death suddenly flows from her fingers, instead of life. Wounds fester and babies die now at her touch. And Talia is devastated. Not because she is shunned by the people of her village, despite of all the good she had previously done for them. But because of the loss of her gift. And her existence dwindles down to drinking herself into a stupor day after day, to simply forget.
A handsome woodcutter is the only light in Talia's dark life. Gentle and kind, he keeps taking care of her, even when she herself forgets to. And of course Talia is dreaming. About something more between them. But who would want someone like her?! Best not even be dreaming.
Bad luck follows Talia everywhere and trouble keeps nipping at her heels. And the only chance she has to end it is a bargain with the Queen of the Wildwood. But for that she has to venture deep into the dark forest and her journey suddenly turns into a race to save the man she had come to love.
Fast-paced and full of unpredictable twists and turns, Curse of the Healer is a lovely fairy tale set on a beautifully drawn world and complemented by nicely drawn characters. It does feel rushed at times, perhaps due to it's shortness, but still, it is quite a satisfying read.
I will be definitely trying more of this author's books in the near future.
