Chance Christmas by Prometheus Susan

My rating: 5 sweet stars

for a delightful and absolutely enchanting read!

Christmas is coming and Bryne is about to spend it alone again. Her former relationship had been a disaster and the disappointment it left behind makes her now wonder if she'll ever find a man to really love her as she is. Small and curvy and with a mind of her own. But she is determined not to settle for anything less than her fairytale. After all, it is always better to be alone than miserable with someone who didn't even like you, let alone love you.

Drayce is a dragon shifter. Not a fire breathing one. He was an ice dragon. The fifth in line to rule the dragon clan. His parents were the king and queen. He had had enough of being chased by a female set on being his mate. Arita was only interested in who his family was, what her title would be after they mated. His dragon wanted only their true mate; no other would do. So he chose solitude too, in the hopes of staying away from unwanted female advances.

Swooping between tall pine trees and barell-rolling between them is all the fun Drayce and his dragon need. Until the day they accidentally knock a little human down and bury her under a mound of snow. And that little human was Bryne, who just happened to pass by, in search for her perfect Christmas tree.

That day, when a puzzled Drayce digs the petite Byrne out of the snow, one word rings clear through his head: Mine! His dragon had just made a claim. The claim for their mate.

It doesn't take long for Drayce to discover that Byrne is a little treasure he had stumbled upon.
She is one of those kind-hearted people who always see the glass as half full. And his dragon wants her!
But Drayce knows that, regardless of how impatient his dragons is, he needs to take it slow for his new found mate. She is a human after all, so he is determined to court her and do everything right.
But his dragon is no much help, constantly grumbling and snarling because he wants his mate.
All Drayce kept hearing in his head was that one word. Mine!

What follows is sweetness on a page! A gentle courtship with quite a few steamy scenes, a jealous female dragon, a mate almost lost and brothers rushing to the rescue... A bit of heartbreak too, because no good love story is without it. And a very sweet and happy ever after!

I loved the dynamic between Drayce and his dragon and couldn't stop smiling whenever the two interacted. Somewhat like this:
His dragon was preening in his head with a smug look that said, see, I told you so.

I loved the parents. His mother who would quickly smack him upside the head and his dad who, on the other hand, would probably fist bump him. And I fell in love with the gentleness of the badass dragon for his mate. His possessiveness and care and, above all, his fierce love.

She was his chance for love at Christmas. His chance to have all that he could ever hope for in his life.

And the image of 3 grown badass ice dragons fighting for cookies with a determined "Get your own, these are mine!" All three of them shoving and pushing the others to get control of the cookie tins and yelling: Share!! - Now that is something to make anyone smile, if not laugh out loud. As well as something to remember.

I read this in a single sitting, not wanting to set it down. It was heartwarming, wonderfully sweet and absolutely delightful! And I highly recommend it to all in search of an enchanting tale, not only on Christmas, but all year round!

Happy reading everyone!
And always remember:
life is meant to be enjoyed.
Take a chance.
One never knows what could happen.
